THE WINNER WILL BE REVEALED ON AUG 1st!!!!! (I will use a virtual hat to draw a name out of!)
I already have snow cone, but if I win I will give it to a worthy friend :) My favorite childhood summer memory is Saturday mornings with my dad. He worked all week, so Saturday was special. He would take me to get groceries and then hit the playground :)
when we first moved to florida from new jersey we would bring our surf boards to the beach, even tho the gulf is completely still and waveless. at sunset my little brother and i would sit on our boards watching the sunset, eating bbq chicken my step-dad made, listening to my mom listen to simon & garfunkel, swatting mosquitoes. sometimes we would eat homemade slushie: orange soda frozen inside my mom's coffee mugs. :)
My fave summer memory is when my mom would make a big batch of fried chicken, put in a plastic zip-lock bag and pack us all up to spend the day at Alum Creek to swim at the beach...well, as much of a beach as you can get in central Ohio. It was always just a day of no worries, no cares...just fun in the sun and water!
Being a FLA kid, you might remember how hot the summers were (ARE?) here and I can remember particularly how my parents tortured my sister and I with yard work which took forever. However, the just reward for being able to get through raking, pulling weeds ect. was an icy cold Polar Cup. It would blow our minds as kids. Polar cup was a frozen lemonade treat with pieces of lemon in it. That suddenly made the said torture almost livable. Polar Cup is long since gone, now being a Big Louie's on Andrew's & Oakland. But I will always have love for the frozen piece of heaven Polar Cup created. ** Sometimes my dad would even take me on his motorcycle. Yah, I was a cool kid. AILEEN/UNDERGROUNDS COFFEEHAUS :)
Riding my bike to the community pool and staying in it until I was a prune!
However, my favorite memory of my summers when I was a kid was when we celebrated Fourth of July. My entire family would come to the house and we'd barbecue, eat watermelon, shoot off fireworks, laugh and me, my brother and my cousins would gather around my great-grandfather and listen to his stories.
My favorite summer memory is from when I was a child and we were living with my great aunt. she had a huge house with a in ground sprinkler system. We used to get our bathing suits on and run around the yard while the sprinklers were on. It was great.

The snow cone is so cute. My childhood memory is making up dancing routines to the 80s music.

The local fair each summer and the great cotton candy and Eclairs. Now that was a sugar high!
